Spyderco Sharpeners Description

Triangle Sharpmaker, 2 Medium/2 Fine

Believe it or not, Spyderco's first product was not a knife, but rather this Spyderco Sharpening system, the patented Triangle Sharpmaker. The Sharpmaker is made in the USA.

How the Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker works:
The stones are made of Alumina Ceramic and are triangular for sharpening Plain edges on the flat sides and SpyderEdges (serrations) on the corners. A furrow running the length of each stone lets you sharpen pointed items like fishhooks, darts and awls. All components snap into the self-contained ABS plastic base and lid -- ready to travel with you. Die-cut into the base are keyed slots and holes fitted for the stones. They accurately set the stone's sharpening angle at a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for knives and a 12.5° scissor setting. If you turn the base over, a channel lets you lay two stones side-by-side (flat-side up) for use as a benchstone. The lid snaps halfway over the base creating a handhold for stability while you're sharpening. Ceramic stones, like glass, will break if dropped -- handle carefully. Use them dry, without oil, water or lubricants.

What's included in the Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker System:
The Spyderco Sharpmaker comes with two medium grit (brown) stones which are open cell stones (friable) and offer more abrasive sharpening to remove steel stock on dull blades and edges that need re-shaping. The medium grit stones will wear over time and repetitive use. Two Fine grit (white) stones are also included, which are less abrasive and ideal for polishing and finishing edges. The fine stones are closed cell ceramics and won't wear like the medium grit stones. Also, included with the Sharpmaker system is a set of brass safety rods to protect your hands while you're sharpening. The Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker system comes with an instructional leaflet and DVD.

Replacement Stones:
There are several different Triangle stones which will fit and work with the Triangle Sharpmaker System. The Triangle stones range from Diamond to Ultra Fine. The finer stones will hone a more perfect, clean edge and the rougher stones (medium and diamond) will be more abrasive and gritty for more dramatic needs. All the Triangle replacement stones measure 7" X 5".

How To clean the Triangle Sharpmaker System:
Scrub stones with a plastic scouring pad and powered abrasive cleaner, let air-dry. The Triangle stones are dishwasher and autoclave safe and are temperature resistant.
