Like the swords of the Spanish Conquistadors, the Cold Steel® Espada™ Large is both a thing of beauty and a formidable tool. The highlight list of these amazing spanish styled "folding swords" goes on and on much like the triumphs of the Conquistadors and the original Espada (sword) they carried.

The state of the art pistol grip on the Cold Steel® Espada™ Large is a heavily curved with multiple finger grooves creating a sub-hilt. The highly polished G-10 scales set off the CNC machined 7075 Aluminum dovetail bolsters. The CNC machined 7075 Aluminum frame of the Espada™ Large is lightweight and strong rivaling even Titanium. The handle design on the Cold Steel® Espada™ Large allows for extended reach and unmatched handle retention.

The blade on the large sized Espada™ is 5 1/2 inch long, and when you combine that with the 6 3/4 inch handle you end up with a 12 1/4 inch folding sword. The Cold Steel® Espada™ Large sports a highly functional and artistic upswept clip point blade made of Japanese AUS 8A Stainless Steel. The hollow ground comes to razor thin edge that just screams out at you "start slicing something with me". The blade is vaccuum heat-treated and sub-zero quenched, creating superior hardness and great edge retention.

Something else of great importance, to me anyway, is the patended thumb plate Cold Steel® has put on several of their knives. The Espada™ Large received this little blessing as well. The thumb plate has just enough overhang to allow for a single motion opening when you draw the Espada™ Large from your pocket. This functions much like the infamous Emerson knives patented "wave shaped opening feature".

This huge knife is bold and certainly is not for the weak at heart. Nothing to worry about when it comes to keeping the blade locked into place, Cold Steel® decided to ratchet up the lure of the Espada™ Large by using thier multi-patented Tri-Ad™ Lock. This lock is unsurpassed in resisting positive, negative and impact pressure. So if you're slashing, cutting, chopping, piercing, chiseling or simply wacking on the back of the spine with a log, the pressure will be passed along to the stop pin and then into the whole handle frame. How sweet is that!

The Cold Steel® Espada™ is a design collaboration in more ways than one. The design and ingenuity of custom knife maker Andrew Demko and Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson have certainly created more than a tactical folder, they created a state of the art tactical folding sword. They have brought old world craftsmanship together with new world engineering, material and mechanics spawning nothing less than a stunningly bold addition to the Cold Steel® product line, the Espada™ Large.
